* PERMISSION SLIPS NOW PAST DUE
I. MIDDLE AGES HISTORICAL FICTION NOVEL/BOOK
A. - review CHANGES TO INSTRUCTIONS/WHAT'S DUE
* write in tracker so that you have it AND so that parents can see changes
* write as clearly as you can
* NOT a BOOKLET (that term is confusing people)
* ANY ORDER WORDS, 26 total (this remains the same)
* NEATLY HANDWRITTEN OR TYPED
title and name on each page, though
do not cram everything together onto one page
* Words and definitions you found in the dictionary obviously won't have
sentences from the book; BUT after explaining definition, explain how the word
applies to a part of the book, a character, an object, the theme, etc.
* Pages numbers help with a higher grade if word is from the book; TRY if you can remember
this is something we want to be a habit; keeping track of page numbers in books
NEXT WEEK WE'LL START TALKING ABOUT STORY
PLOT (opening, hook, rising events, peak, falling action, resolution/ending)
SETTING,
THEMES
MAIN CHARACTERS, INTERNAL / EXTERNAL CONFLICT
what character is like at beginning and at end of story
SUPPORTING CHARACTERS
ANTAGONISTS or CONFLICT CHARACTERS
B. DICTIONARY WORD HUNT
words that are new to you, but you can use to talk about something IN the book
EXAMPLE: D is for DAPPER, which means flashy, neat, well-dressed, usually energetic.
Papa (in Family Tree) is neat, organized, but not dapper. As part of his Amish upbringing he
is never flashy or colorful. It's just not who he is.
II. ASHLAND ITINERARY REVIEW
- read/review
- write down questions you still have (in groups)
* initial questions and answers;
we still have plenty of time to talk more about the trip
NO SIGNATURES NEEDED YET
