I.  TRACKER CHECK
- check your homework completion and schedule
- plan out homework in your tracker
- be specific
- plan for how much you have to do and how long each item will take
- HAVE OUT THE MYSTERY BOOK ABC work (due today) 


II.  MYSTERY BOOK ABC
A.   Discuss HOW you completed this book report
       What was challenging and how did you overcome your challenges?
       What took the most time?  How did you organize your time?
       Which paragraph are you most proud of/think you did the best job?
       Which word was your favorite and why?

B.    CHECK FOR LITERARY ELEMENTS
        - create a list on a separate sheet of paper
        - list out which letters/words reveal or talk about the below literary elements

        Plot (opening, hook, peak, resolution)
       The Crime or Puzzle to solve
       Character descriptions
       Sleuth/Detective (someone has to be the person/people looking for the answer)
       Internal and External motivations are mentioned
       Internal and External Conflict
       Setting (time, place, mood, atmosphere)
       Lessons or Themes (major ideas)
       Clues
       Red Herrings/distractions/redirections (maybe)

      * Turn in with today's work

C.   LITERARY ELEMENTS REVISION/PROOFREADING:
        Now quietly go through and ADD DETAILS to your writing (revision process)
     
        Find spots where you can give details to enhance information.
        - from who
        - to who
        - where
        - why
        - how
        - give details or examples
       - describe / add information or adjectives to help better understand who a character is
         (add "a mechanical engineer" to Bob's name, for instance, if it helps better understand him)

 

III.  EDGAR ALLEN POE'S "THE RAVEN"

A.     - brief introduction

B.      - first reading (read to see what it's about)
          - hopefully, take note of scary vocab words
          - what's happening? what questions do you have?
   
C.     - count off/number stanzas to help keep track of poem parts
         - start to annotate
         - summarize lines or stanzas
         - write out word meanings you remember
         - comment on meaning or intent when you can
        - write question mark for things you are unsure of or don't know or understand
