2/21 [TU], 2017 - CASTLE VID cont.

CASTLE PROJECT IS DUE MONDAY, MARCH 6
- completed in all of its glory!

*** THIS WEEK YOU SHOULD BE DESIGNING, FINISHING GATHERING MATERIALS, FIGURING OUT WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE AND WHERE YOU'LL GET MATERIALS.
** You could, theoretically, be able to start building this weekend

I.  OP ED (due next Monday)
    source:  USA TODAY, Feb. 19
                   "President Delivers on Promise" (PRO/supportive)
                    "Chaotic First Month" (CON/not supportive)

- Read 2 op eds and color code PRO (one color)
- color code words or phrases or terms that are CON/against (a different color)
* to the best of your ability; think about how an author is trying to sway you
* you do not have to agree with either writer's positions, simply look at evidence they use to
   convince you of their position

- teacher model/think aloud how to determine positive or negative phrasing and words

II.  DAVID MACAULEY'S "CASTLE" video
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGbPShUpjpg
* the above link is not a "hot link;" you'll have to cut and paste to see

- review notes in SS Spiral so far
- make sure you have boxed any castle parts mentioned in video
- underline or box "paragraphs" or specific topics (pre-write organization strategy)

- continue to take video notes
- continue to focus on:
                 history and background of castles
castle parts and purpose (for castle project)

* * * *
HOMEWORK -- castle work is not your only HW this week; plan time carefully
* * * * *

YOU MAY DECIDE TO SHIFT HOW OR
WHEN YOU WORK ON CERTAIN TASKS

For instance, YOU may decide to do all of the Vocab on one night and
the Op-Eds the next night.  This is your call.

__  continue to read your LIBRARY BOOK (finish in two weeks)
      * break down a schedule and talk to me if you can't finish in two weeks
      * be prepared to talk about or write about in class over the next two weeks

__  continue 3-5 CASTLE VOCAB #2 (20 words from notes or packet due FR)
      * higher score for more in depth definitions/descriptions

___  continue to read Trump's First Month op-eds (15-20 minutes) - due MON
        - continue to highlight in one color PRO/positive/in support of
        - continue to highlight in another color CON/negative/not in support of

        take a moment to
___  review parts of castle to include and materials you have for each part

imagine or think about how you will build/put it together
be aware of and note what parts you still need materials for
be aware of and note what materials you need like glue or staples or tape or paint
        * create notes and lists in your tracker or on scratch paper
