2/14 [TU], 2017 VALENTINES DAY

 NOTE:  CASTLE PROJECTS are DUE MARCH 6


I.  Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET, Act 2, Scene ii
- Let's talk LOVE...like, crazy love
- THE BALCONY SCENE
- one of most famous relationships in all of western literature
- star-crossed lovers (we know they'll die at the end)

A.   -background on story & main characters
       - how Romeo winds up at the balcony of Juliet
       - choral reading of scene (repeat after teacher)

B.  - go back and review what's happening; annotate notes
      - pick apart words
      - note how fantastical, overblown, impetuous, brash he is
      - BOTH of them are moving fast and making their love out to be huge/crazy/out of control

C.  - watch video overview of the entire plot (animated)
      - watch Reduced Shakespeare Company's 15-minute reduced version (hilarious)

D.  - on the back of the Act 2, Scene ii sheet, write a brief
        SUMMARY of THE SCENE (use our notes); add analysis and commentary if you can
        - one - to - two paragraphs only

 II.  CASTLE PACKET INSTRUCTIONS (castles due Mar. 6)

A.  - quiz on self-generated QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROJECT
      - what do you need to know? what questions should the instruction should answer for you
      * show an ability to predict questions that are important for you to successfully create a project

       - teacher runs through list of most often asked questions by students &
          questions answered in the packet

B.   -  SSR read the instruction packet (show reading/highlight key details and terms)
       - number each page
       - place check boxes to the left or right of tasks/criteria you must include/
          don't want to forget
        - underline key details that you have to remain aware of while building
      
          ***  THIS WEEK
          (a) RESEARCH parts and designs;
          (b) begin to CONCEPTUALIZE/design;
          (c) start to figure out where to GET MATERIALS

        (a) word; (b) detailed definition & explanation, description, or function of part;
        (c) a small drawing of the shape of the object to help conceptualize how it looks for castle
