I. GRAMMAR REVIEW - PARTICIPLES & PARTICIPLE PHRASES
- What are participles? What do they look like in writing? How do they function/what is purpose?
- using the purple EMC textbook, find the page on participles and determine answers to the
above questions (seeking non-fiction information)
- on blank, lined paper, please create a notes page explaining participles
- COMPLETE PARTICIPLES WORKSHEET
- Show reading by boxing key terms or instruction verbs,
underlining key details or instructions
II. begin LOIS LOWRY'S THE GIVER
- If you've read the story, be respectful -- don't reveal to anyone (don't spoil the story)
- We are studying the book, so if you've read it, that's great. Better understanding.
-Read Chapter 1 (SSR); you may go into Chapter 2
- review margin questions and be able to back up answer with proof from text
- WRITE PLOT EVENTS (with participle phrases when you can) for Ch 1
- CREATE T-CHART of "FAMILIAR" things versus "ODD" things that the author uses
to create tension and questions in the text
