I. DAILY EXPECTATIONS
- enter and get ready
- get out tracker and look at where you are
- check for homework due (have it out)
- check to see if you filled out tracker for previous days (get from another student)
- sharpen pencils BEFORE class
- make sure you have pencils, pens, erasers, paper BEFORE class
- take all items you'll use in core and put them under your desk on top of binder
* no need to go through binder every time you need something
- start homework list for this week (in tracker -- teacher guided)
II. CROSSWORD & ATLAS WORKSHEET expectations
- name in proper place; core
- show reading by underling key words, box terms (teacher will model)
- due date in a spot where you can see; box or star
* almost always will be due on Fridays
* worksheets that don't show reading can never be worth more than a C-
III. WORD PARTS PRE QUIZ
- will start off the year with an overview/review/barrage of prefixes /root words/ suffixes
- remind yourself or become aware of Latin-based words with parts that have meanings
- Listen to word and try to spell it. No sentences for this quiz.
- You cannot fail if you try. I will repeat t
he word three times.
- Spell as best you can
- Use handout to self-correct
IV WORD PARTS PULL OUT
- Use Word Parts Packet to "pull out" prefixes or suffixes you find in word list
* we are exploring here; if you understand that many words have word parts with
meaning, you can often guess what the words mean
* sharing/discussing at table groups
* NOT HW (we'll come back to this Wednesday)
V. WHERE I'M FROM POEM - intro (first reading)
- read quietly; read 2x if you're fast
- read aloud; repeat after teacher
- what do you know/learn about this person?
* not homework; we'll come back and begin a rough draft on Wednesday
* ties in to our first in class novel, Katherine Ayres Family Tree
* we will be creating our own Where I'm From poem, starting Wednesday
