PRAETORIAN: The designation of the imperial (royal) guards for the emperor of Rome during
ancient times. This group was an highly trained, very elite group
of guards. During more corrupt times, they would often take bribes
in order to get rid of an emperor to bring in another person to rule Rome.
Any group of highly specialized guards for one person can now be
referred to as a "praetorian guard," meant to make us think of the Roman
guard.
