MYSTERY ABC BOOK REPORT

You have chosen a Mystery (genre) book from the library.
You have had several days to begin reading.
Many can be finished in one week or so.
The Expectation is 20-30 minutes, every night, 5 nights per week.

ELEMENTS OF A MYSTERY or a WHODUNIT
A.  PROBLEM - missing person or thing
                            stolen thing
                            murder or attack
                            puzzle to be solved or a crime of some sort

B.  CLUES

C.  SUSPECTS

D.  SLEUTH - either an actual detective or
                        someone/people who are trying to solve/figure out problem

E.  MOTIVE   - why was something/crime/act done?

F.   DISCOVERY - the big reveal; sometimes after a chase

G.  RED HERRING - sometimes there is a misleading clue or a wrong direction taken

H.  SETTING - often the setting is a major part of what drives the plot/crime

GENRES:  Crosses all types of fiction from science fiction to romance to historical to modern young adult, to western, to any culture;

MYSTERY ABC BOOK REPORT

_____   One word for every letter of the alphabet (an object/thing/a prop for a movie)
             Must be a noun.  Cannot be the name of a place or a person's name.
             Can be objects or features of a place.  (Pyramids for Egypt, for example)
             Can be titles or revealing aspects of a character   (Pipe is for Sherlock Holmes
                  ever present smoking pipe, for instance)

_____       long, A-plus EXAMPLE: 
                 S is for SUMAC TREE:   Tyler and Casey start walking through the forest looking for bckgrnd:   trees for the science part of their project.  As they are walking in the forest, Tyler is still
                 trying to deal with the news that her father is a banished Amish man.  She's very stressed.
some         She sees a Sumac tree and calls it "junk," which shows that she is willing to judge trees
analsysis   just like someone other people judged her father "junk" and forced him out. 

                  * a shorter version could also just describe the tree, where they find it and what she
                  thinks of it.

_____   Each word gets a 3-5-sentence paragraph explanation of what the word is/means
             (description or explanation) and HOW it ties into or ties into the story

_____  No page numbers needed for an assignment like this

_____   Each Letter (drop cap) should take up 3-4 lines in size 

_____  Space between each letter and paragraph (skip lines)

_____  TITLE PAGE , CENTERED, MIDDLE OF THE PAGE (no illustrations necessary)
