10/5 [TH], 2017

IN CLASS ON DEMAND WRITING DAY

I.  ancient ROMAN EMPIRE EXPOSITORY ESSAY
* we'll walk through the process of planning for,
                                                         organizing, and
                                                         writing an essay on demand

A.  Review the essential questions we've been focusing on
      (show on the overhead Monday's written out questions)

B.  Review your spiral notes; NOW they become more important
      Where are the facts and details you'd use for your essay(s)

C.  Label your notes Who, What, Where, Why, How, When, etc.
      start to categorize your notes, which should help you better understand and know them

D.  Create a word list of words you will or should use in your essay
      Left-hand side page in your spiral (right hand side is for the essay)
      Try to put them in area of page you think you'd use them
            (beginning, middle, or end)
      * this is a pre-outline strategy

E.    Share list with other people at your table/then outside table
       Hear other people's lists of words/ get ideas from them, too
       Hear why they would use those words; explain your own

II.  ON DEMAND QUICK WRITE ESSAY
A.    - one page maximum
        - do not write past red line on the right (leave a one-inch margin)
        - do not write all the way down to the bottom line (leave 1-2 lines)
        - mention what you DO know; do not tell readers what you do NOT know
        * have your MIB work underneath you so that you can quietly grab and work on
           if you finish one page

       use your schedule of work that we have created and shared in class
       * this IS crunch time !
