EXTRA CREDIT OR MAKE UP OPPORTUNITIES:

Using the Dovecot Cornell-style note as your example, 
RESEARCH and CREATE CORNELL-STYLE NOTE of

          -- whatever YOU determine is important to know to better understand this part/thing/material

          OR, research and take notes on the following subjects that help us better understand
          Lois Lowry's The Giver:
      
___   THE COLOR RED
          Look up the color red and take notes on history of red dyes, symbolism/meaning,
          use throughout history (any and all cultures); Eastern vs. Western uses/symbolism;
          the biology of the color red - why do babies often see red first?  how do light waves work?
          * your notes will answer any or  all of these questions

      
___   THE BACKGROUND and HISTORY OF THE NAME GABRIEL
          Especially take note of the meaning of the word and take notes on the arch angel Gabriel in
          the Bible; what does this angel represent or do?

___    THE STORIES and BACKGROUND OF JONAS/JONAH (biblical background)
          What is the point of the stories of those two individuals?
           Your notes will help us connect to the Giver's Jonas and his story/point
