2/24 [FR], 2017

CASTLE PROJECT IS DUE MONDAY, MARCH 6
- completed in all of its glory!

*** THIS WEEK YOU SHOULD BE DESIGNING, FINISHING GATHERING MATERIALS, FIGURING OUT WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE AND WHERE YOU'LL GET MATERIALS.
** You could, theoretically, be able to start building this weekend

current events / reading
I.  USA TODAY TRUMP'S FIRST MONTH OP - EDS
- start off class SSR read
- continue to ANSWER QUESTION
- work towards 1-2 more answers (by this point you should also be getting faster at answering)
- go through at end and if you used a vocab word (which should have happened)
write off to the side the definition of the word
   * many times we use words we don't know the meaning of; this forces some thought about meaning
- FOCUS:  use class time well
* Trump's 1st month ANSWERS / OP EDS due Monday

II.  CASTLE - CREATE A TO DO LIST (prebuilding/planning activity)
A.     - SHARE in groups where you are so far
         - what materials/parts are you still missing?  what's your plan to get these materials?

B.      HAND OUT:  (a) Parts Crossword; (b) Parts Wordsearch; (c) Castle Diagram Match/Color
        - each counts for 1.5 points EXTRA CREDIT due after project finished
        - these are one more checklist/parts list for you to use; images to get ideas from

C.      BRAIN STORM EVERY SMALL STEP YOU NEED TO DO TO COMPLETE PROJECT:
        - write down all activities/ tasks you can think of from "check instr." to "review score sheet"
        - every task gets a verb: buy, check, review, build, tape, glue, paste, etc.
        - tasks you need to do earliest go at top of page; final tasks at bottom of page

D.     SHARE TASKS/TO DO LISTS
        - you may get ideas from others or others may get ideas from you
        * this sheet is worth 10 points (full, completed) AFTER castle project is due
        * no, you don't want to turn it in; it's  working document you are using to organize yourself

III.   Lois Lowry's THE GIVER - chptr 14-15
- review notion of the Allegory of the Cave- Cornell Notes on THEME: CHOICE in the novel

- READ CHPTR 14-15
- Answer in LA Spiral CH 14-15 Margin Q's (2 pages for Ch 14)

* * * *
HOMEWORK -- castle work is not your only HW this week; plan time carefully
* * * * *

YOU MAY DECIDE TO SHIFT HOW OR
WHEN YOU WORK ON CERTAIN TASKS

For instance, YOU may decide to do all of the Vocab on one night and
the Op-Eds the next night.  This is your call.

__  continue to read your LIBRARY BOOK (finish in two weeks)
      * break down a schedule and talk to me if you can't finish in two weeks
      * be prepared to talk about or write about in class over the next two weeks
      * YOU SHOULD BE AT LEAST 1-2 HOURS INTO YOUR BOOK BY NOW

___  FINISH Trump's First Month op-eds  - due MON
        - continue to highlight in one color PRO/positive/in support of
        - continue to highlight in another color CON/negative/not in support of
        - FINISH answering questions 1-18 (minus the 2 that the printer cut off)
        * we have had several days at the start of class to work on this, in addition
to work done at home as homework throughout the week

        take a moment to
___  review parts of castle to include and materials you have for each part

imagine or think about how you will build/put it together
be aware of and note what parts you still need materials for
be aware of and note what materials you need like glue or staples or tape or paint
        * create notes and lists in your tracker or on scratch paper

YOU COULD CERTAINLY START TO ARRANGE AND BUILD INITIAL ASPECTS OF YOUR CASTLE AT THIS POINT.  YOUR GOAL IS TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO START THIS NEXT WEEK AND ENDING WITH FINAL TOUCHES NEXT SATURDAY OR SUNDAY.
