2/23 [TH], 2017 - CASTLES cont.

CASTLE PROJECT IS DUE MONDAY, MARCH 6
- completed in all of its glory!

*** THIS WEEK YOU SHOULD BE DESIGNING, FINISHING GATHERING MATERIALS, FIGURING OUT WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE AND WHERE YOU'LL GET MATERIALS.
** You could, theoretically, be able to start building this weekend


current events / reading
I.  USA TODAY TRUMP'S FIRST MONTH OP - EDS
- start off class SSR read quietly
- continue to ANSWER QUESTION
- work towards 1-2 more answers
- go through at end and if you used a vocab word (which should have happened)
   write off to the side the definition of the word
   * many times we use words we don't know the meaning of; this forces some thought about meaning
- FOCUS  & use class time well
* Trump's 1st month ANSWERS / OP EDS due Monday


II.  CASTLE - early medieval process
A.     - review video notes so far
         - highlight or "dot" words you would use in a quick write on
            early stages of building a medieval castle

B.      Quick Write (QW):
          "Early stages of castle building in medieval Europe"
        - first sentence must give an overall description of this process
          what did YOU think while watching the video?
           How would you describe or characterize the first stages in one sentence?
           * this becomes your main idea or point to prove; it helps introduce & focus your writing
        - Write a one-paragraph (minimum) to one-page (maximum)
           quick write/rough draft on the early stages of building a medieval castle

C.     Review for words you "think" need to be checked for spelling
         Read your words IN your head (how do they sound?
         Should anything be changed to "sound" better?


III.   David Macauley's CASTLE - video notes continued
- new page in SS spiral (with "continued" in title, and "day 3")
- continue to focus on castle parts (and purpose) and background of castles/historical information
