I. CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED BK RPT
* yesterday we discussed & shared information on 4 different parts of the book report
* this was part of modelling what the writing should look and sound like
* also part of students answering questions or getting ideas
A. review instructions
- make marks to show reading
- indicate with a box to left or right tasks that need to be done
or criteria to include
- write questions to the left or right if you have them still
* Instruction Sheet is worth 5 points (must show reading)
B. work time (goal is to complete 1-2 parts of the book report IN class)
- prioritize what is (a) most important and worth most points
- manageable and accomplishable IN class right now; make a choice
C. take a moment to plan out next steps to finish by Friday OR how to finish by Monday
- be specific with each step or piece; do not write "complete book report" as it's too vague
- we will have one more brief, final work session on Friday
II. ISLAM - GEOGRAPHY OF ISLAM
A. review yesterday's readings and Frame/organized notes
- finish FRAME/notes
B. QUICK WRITE in SS Spiral
- using notes, write a 4-5 sentence paragraph on the geography and importance of
the Arabian Peninsula in the development of Islam
- glance at summary and try to figure out or find out how the geography/land
impacted the development and rise of Islam
- NO MORE than 1/2 page of writing. This is a timed/limited assignment.
You write what you can in the time you can. That's the point.
The graphic organizer you just created should guide you. (and help keep it short)
- title combines the topic of the chapter with the title of the unit
(always try to connect your writing and tell readers what to expect)
"The Geography of the Arabian Peninsula (chapter title) and the rise of Islam (unit title)"
your quick write now has a specific focus.
now we move to
III. ISLAM - THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD
(a quick reading/note-taking activity in a short time period)
History Alive, Chapter 8, pp. 82-91
* we will be focusing more time on Chapter 9 and several videos next week
A. SSR READ introduction/overview
- what are the essential questions the introduction and chapter should answer?
(student share/guess/discuss, teacher facilitated)
- after silent reading (SSR), create in SS Spiral a one page Cornell Style notes
- use teacher categories for left-hand side (classroom discuss/guess/teacher model)
* teacher will model start of notes/students will participate in creation
* teacher "think aloud" process
* * * *
HOMEWORK -- this has been a "dead week" = make up or revise work all week
* * * *
Students have been creating lists of homework or work to revise/correct for higher score
Each night, mindful of how much time they have or will work on assignments
Trying to be specific "_ finish 5 vocab #3 words," for instance, instead of "Voc #3"
which is vague and can be overwhelming
