1/4 [WE], 2017 - ISLAM start

I.  CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED BK RPT
- review instructions
- discuss w/ person across from you the main character
  who, what like at start, back ground, change that occurs by end
   how is the person's life/attitude/situation different by the end
   * you - can - also focus on another character who changes by the end

A.   discuss the songs you chose to be used in YOUR movie version of this book
       what songs and why a song is appropriate or fits the scene or character
       is there a song for a main character at the start and a different song at the end?

B.   after moving, discuss with new partner different things you noticed about the
       world of the book you read:  cultural differences (food, clothing, rules, language, etc.)

C.   move again.  now discuss the songs you considered or included in your soundtrack
       what made you choose or think of that song?  Or, what songs do you now think would
       be appropriate for your movie version of the book

II.  ISLAM - introduction prequiz (what do you know or think you know?)
A.  pre quiz of knowledge: what DO you know about Islam?
      score based on guessing anything; based on trying to come up with any ideas
      wrong answers do not count against student
      * this is essentially a "list" of what you think you might know or guesses you make
       including guesses as to what you think Islam is NOT also counts

B.  using your pre-quiz/list, discuss what you think you know (group work) about Islam

III.  ISLAM - GEOGRAPHY OF ARABIAN PENINSULA

A.   quickly review design elements of HA, Chapter 7, pp. 72-82
        pay attention to titles, sub titles, vocabulary words  in boldface, and all images
        ** teacher-led Cornell-style note of page 72 (what do we learn from 2 paragraphs)

B.   Create a FRAME of the design elements ONLY for this chapter
         (1) headings -- count how many there are and write them out in one column
         (2) key words/vocab in boldface -- again, count how many and space appropriately
               in the next column;
         (3) images; count out how many and space out titles of each image in 3rd column
         (4) maps/charts -- count out how many and space out appropriately in last column;
               write out full title of each image

* this is a skimming and scanning activity; without actually reading the  entire chapter, you can
   are preparing yourself for important ideas about the topic and could actually describe something
   of the geography of the Arabian Peninsula.

* students may finish this at home if they have finished their book report; we will continue this on Thursday and move on to the next chapter, as well.

* * * * *
HOMEWORK  - make up/revision week

               no more than a statement and 1-2 descriptive sentences per plot event
               strive to include who, what, where, why, when, and how
               what happened, why did it happen, and what did it lead to
         __  list of 10 things about this world/culture that you learned
               education, attitude, clothing, food, rules, etc.

              technically, everything is up on Synergy, however.
