1/24 [TU], 2017 - Islam (cont)

LIBRARY today -- free choice fiction novel
- focus on literary elements (hook, intro, characterization, internal/external conflict, setting, etc)
* create an accordian book of 8-13 simple images that symbol aspects of literary elements
* read book in two weeks (longer books, report will be on where you get to)

pre-writing strategies practice
I.  getting ready to WRITE AN ESSAY ON ISLAM
-   how to prep and organize

A.   - review notes so far; share/discuss (what would be in a quiz)
B.   - create list of essential questions that a report or essay or encyclopedia article would answer
         work silently AND share with/listen to others
C.  - let guidlines/subheadings guide your notes; focus there first; 
      - take note of bold face/significant words
D.  - start to mark up notes into possible paragraphs (box or line or indicate)

II.  LIBRARY TIME
- book talk/sharing with Mr. Levy
- check out book of choice
- posters are up in the classroom of ICON REPRESENTATIONS of LITERARY ELEMENTS
 * read your book in two weeks (longer, more detailed books we can talk about)
* students will be giving book talks in small groups
* using ICON PICTURES to help discuss character, conflict, setting, etc.
* read 20-30 minutes per day/45 minutes to an hour or more on weekends if you can)
