I. EUPHEMISMS (major part of writing style and substance of The Giver)
A. - look over/read instructions and definition
- underline and highlight key details
- practice chunking up details in each sentence and memorizing/repeating back to self
- pair share meaning of word to partner
B. - work on Sheet #1; more detailed the answer, higher the grade (stronger writing = goal)
- take note/notice strong/powerful words
- use dictionary to jot down meanings of vivid, powerful, high-level words
* DUE following MONDAY
* but with enough work in class and some HW, should be done sooner
II. Easy CBM VOCABULARY ASSESSMENT (district mandated)
- 20 questions
- grade is for taking test and making notes on why an answer is NOT the answer
- show thinking process; show how to eliminate answers to verify correct answer
- incorrect answers not counted against student score in grade book
III. THE GIVER
- read up to but no further than the end of Chapter 3; do not start chapter 4
- start/continue homework while others catch up
