11/30 [WE], 2016 - PENNY DRIVE STORY

I.  CREATE A STORY 
- using these six words:  two women, lunch, ball, crying, gown, necklace, truth, ashamed
* who are the main characters? -- describe them, their personalities, drives, physical descr.
* what is the setting?
* what is the plot/major events in this story?
* how does the story end?

II.  THE NECKLACE by Guy de Maupassant
* condensed one-third page version
- read silently
- answer questions on a separate sheet of paper (groups)
- include comparison description of both characters (using text)
- include list of 3-5 significant plot events that occur in the story to drive it

III.  create STORIES OF CHANGE
- craft one-page stories (2-3 minutes long)
* rough draft/quiet work
* brainstorm ideas (group work -- everyone can write about SOMETHING)
* brainstorm a few words for story B4 you begin rough draft (quick thinking plot/character ideas)

- any genre, funny, serious, romantic, fantasy, sci-fi, detective, etc.
- not gory, gross, offensive, bloody, uber violent for sake of being gratuitous
- stories of positive, good change; hopeful
- can have a twist at end, like the Necklace, or just a lesson or a resolution (your call)
- finish most RD in class
- final copy (handwritten or typed) due MONDAY

V.  FINAL FRIDAY B4 BREAK SNACK VOTE
- do you want to or are you able/not able to bring in $6.00
- $2 will go towards snacks for last day before break

* Mr. Gentile can buy more in bulk for $2.00 than you can on your own
* most of you, anyhow

         * may be typed or handwritten (neat & legible!)
         * use Guy de Maupasant's condensed version of  "The Necklace" as model
         * no more than 3-5 minutes in "length"
