4/15/15 - [Poetry Scrapbook Instr]

* Late opening today
* PERMISSION SLIPS DUE TODAY by end of HW Club or 
* Multicultural Novel Scrapbook due May 7th
* Practice SBAC test (language arts) this Thursday
* Gentile Core SBAC testing week of May 4th-8th

I.  MULTICULTURAL NOVEL POETRY SCRAPBOOK instructions
- read instructions (silently)
- explain to each other what you think this assignment asks you to do
- review a couple of poem forms
- READ NOVEL LAST FEW MINUTES OF PERIOD
  * you should be 30-60 minutes into book already
  * cannot begin writing poems until you get 2-5 chapters into book

II.  POETRY SCRAPBOOK - review formatting
* can be hand-written in pencil or pen, typed, or printed online
* neatness and organization count; creativity in design also gets a separate grade

- review several format options
- review Haiku (5 syllables first line, 7 syllables second line, 5 syllables third line)
- since everyone has read at least the first few pages by now, CREATE A HAIKU
  of an opening moment from your book

* save ALL rough drafts.  Will be turned in at end.  Worth at least a D for the project.
* should see some examples of  REVISION and CHANGE


III.  ASHLAND $$ BALANCES SO FAR
- write in your tracker
- check your records
- final payment due from now to May 15

___  continue reading20-30 min MULTICULTURAL NOVEL

___   determine setting from novel to complete ATLAS statements (due Monday)
        * 10 statements minimum from just looking at maps
        * 10 statements max from captions or text or facts
        * may be typed or hand written
        * you may also use online research to look up maps, geography of your novel's setting
