I. KNIGHTS (introduction to)
- Begin with questioning strategy
- brainstorm questions to ask that a report or speech would answer
- write in left page SS spiral What, When, Where, Why, Who, How questions
- brainstorm quietly, then in groups, then share as a class
- discuss what you know or think you know (answer questions you can)
II. KNIGHTS - encyclopedia article
- with questions in view on left page, write notes on right page
- clipped, short facts/information on knights from article
- no full sentences
III. KNIGHTS - note cards
- model note card strategy with "Tournament" section
- have students reread this section
- model strategy (four notecards)
* brief clipped facts, no sentences, lots of space,
not crammed so full as to be unreadable
* keep and use as models for Non-Fiction Book Notecards
* we completed 5-8 notecards in class in 20 minutes

NON-FICTION NOTECARDS
- 1 bibliography card
- 20 note cards with (a) topic; (b) subtopic; (c) brief, easy-to-read notes; (d) source & page #
- do not need to be cut up (prefer you don't)
- take notes as if you were going to give a brief overview, speech, or write an essay on your topic
- practicing notecard design and choosing essential facts
- book is of your choice, although can be related to science fair project, too!
