I. CLASSMATE BINGO
- READ INSTRUCTIONS (show reading)
* box or highlight important details, things to remember
- place letters in small boxes upper right of each larger box
- no free space, but one letter will be left unused
- review categories for each letter
- translate difficult/wordy categories
- need at least three detail words for each person's name
(can't just write down their name)
* this becomes a sort of writing with details exercise

II. LIFE IS A HIGHWAY lyrics
- read silently
- list out what we pay attention to when reading lyrics or poetry
- go back and annotate (silent/independent, then in groups, then as a class)
* what do we notice about story? Narrator? Setting? Themes? Use of language?
- QW: summarize and explain what song is about
- discuss as class
- follow up with teacher-led notes
