11/17/14 - MO [TALL TALES continued]

      for all eligible students

 I.  MCBROOM'S TALL TALES - instructions
- "book report" expectations & Instruction sheet
- read/review instruction sheet
* FINISH BY WEDNESDAY before break
* NOT LATE IF TURNED IN DEC. 1
   but YOU chose to do work over the weekend.


II.  MCBROOM TALL TALE VOCABULARY
* Tall tales have a rhythm to them, a folksy frivolity
* Show that you understand how certain words fit well with certain genres

- skim and scan each story; create a list of words from each story
  that are:  (A) folksy; (B) fit with the literary style of tall tales; (C) challenging;
  (D) interesting, powerful, or just plain colorful

- review and write down format for this weeks Tall Tales McBroom Vocab
- using dictionaries,

III. MIDDLE AGES - FEUDAL SOCIAL STRUCTURE
- key word video notes
- look at video as an essay; focus on introduction; note paragraph/subject shifts
- learn to ignore non essential aspects of presentation
* notes could lead to a quick write essay

          * continue reading other tales (finish by no later than Friday to be on track)

___    begin first few (4-6) VOCAB WORDS FROM FIRST MCBROOM TALL TALE
          (due FRIDAY)

          Include:
___   WORD (boxed)
___   word part (in parenthesis)
___   definition (as thorough as possible -- do not use word IN the definition)
___   sentence in quotation marks FROM the story (with page number in parentheses)

* should lead to stronger word choice and writing style for your own Tall Tale
