9/30/13 - MO

* * ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS STILL FOR SALE

      ENDS OCTOBER 18th

* * TEAM TIME THIS FRIDAY (loss of 60 points or more = study hall)
       - points can be lost for multiple not prepared for class
                                                           off task or overly chatty despite redirection
                                                            missing 3+ major assignments (in ability range)
       Team Time Study hall always earns points (and assignment grades) for students in core

I.  ANCIENT ROMAN EMPIRE - essay
- on-command essay (in quick write form)
- review Chpt 1, focusing on how to answer 3 questions:
        1) What was the ancient Roman empire?
        2)  What did the ancient Roman empire accomplish? (leading to 3)
        3)  How does the ancient Roman empire still impact us today?  (the "so what?")

- create a *quick* outline
- review instruction sheet
- write 1-2-page quick write essay in SS spiral
* teacher can use this to assess how easily and naturally students are able to create (or not create) 
recognizeable opening paragraphs, closing paragraphs, use of transitions.
* not homework
* result will be a formal-sounding quick write that is, on the first reading, strong in content

II.  MIB/library time
- create a plan for last nine days (map out on folded sheet of 8.5x11)
- have a plan/goal for last 40 minutes of time in library
* quiet time, not chat time

HOMEWORK -- plan your time carefully/map out your schedule

      *Now is the time to begin finalizing your MIB chapters (work at YOUR pace)
      * Every night you should have some MIB homework (your plan/your choice)
       * goal is to have a great deal/most done by Sunday, so that you can revise
          and finalize next week.

        - DAY 1 complete in class MO
