9/17/13 - TU

COMING UP:

I.  finish HISTORY ALIVE TEXTBOOK STRUCTURE frame
- finish FRAME on the structure of your textbook chapters
- columns focus on recognizing Titles, Subtitles, Vocab Words, Images
* HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE WHERE IMPORTANT INFORMATION IS?
- Come up with a "so what?"  -- why is this an important skill to master?
- Ten Facts I Now Know About the Roman Empire Using Notes from My FRAME
   on the structure of the chapter

II.  LEGACY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE
- Read HA, Chapter 1 (SSR), pages 6-17
- Teacher model where Key Topic for FRAME came from (think aloud modeling)
- Teacher model first Main Idea from Introduction
- Teacher model facts for Details boxes under first Main Idea
- students work on Main Ideas for three columns to end of class
* I will stop students after a certain point, so we'll finish reading on Thursday.
* we will continue working on Frame Thursday, too.  Not homework.


REMINDER:  ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS HANDED OUT
- Everyone gets one as a sample to help sell
- Take only if you want to sell the books
- You are still responsible for the book (it's not free)
- Sale will end October 18th
- $5.00 credit towards your account for each book you sell

* start to figure out how much time these papers will take you
* show reading as we discussed in class
* you might finish quite a bit in one night
* REVIEW YOUR WEEKLY ACTIVITIES such as practices and such
    to figure out how much time you'll have
* Vocabulary will always be a priority
