4/29/13 - TU

* * POETRY SCRAPBOOKS are DUE (w/ books)
      will accept Tuesday as "on time,"
      with extra credit for those who turn them in today
      (my compromise on the confusion)

**  RUN FOR HEIGHTS FORMS & MONEY IS DUE
**   POSSIBLE 8th GRADE SURVEY'S ALSO DUE

I.  MAP WARM UP
- Interactive Student Notebook, page 68 #1
- properly label map AND include oceans and seas
* quick, easy warm up to give us/remind us of area we are about to study

II.  THE CRUSADES - skimming and scanning activity
- History Alive, Chapter 11, pages 218-229
- We will read/skim 217 to remind us of Muslim/Arab accomplishments
- Create a list of facts and details you learn about the Crusades
   ONLY using titles, subtitles, and bold-face words (red or blue)
* A reading strategy to quickly build background knowledge and gain information


III. THE CRUSADES - ssr
-  scan pages 290-294; look only at subtitles for information
   this information helps us understand something of how we get to Crusades
-  silently read Across the Centuries, pages 295-304
-  teacher walk through FRAME
-  teacher models rewriting main idea boxes into sentences for a paragraph
-  students fill in details for each main idea
* be brief, do not write long, detailed facts into each box
* not homework; we will finish on Thursday

HOMEWORK -- plan and organize your week; a little each night

__  read "India's biometric IDs put its poorest on the map" (Oregonian, 4/28/13)
      20 facts or details (things you understand from the article) - DUE FR 5/3
      * complete title; neat, detailed facts, organized writing (typed or written)

___  complete VOCAB WEEK 18 in a timely manner
        - DAY 1 complete in class MO
        - DAY 2 complete at home MO night
        - DAY 3 complete at home TU night
        - DAY 4 complete at home WE night

        * begin SENTENCES once you correct and check answers (each night)
           Try to get a few done early! ! !
        * write sentences with detail and context.  Show that you understand the meaning
           of the word.
        * underline or box the vocabulary word; skip lines between sentences
        * title must include which week of vocabulary (which #) and the topic
