3/12/13 - TU [KNIGHTS]

*  CONGRATULATIONS ON 7TH GRADE WINNING CANNED FOOD DRIVE

*  BOOK FAIR THIS WEEK
       * 10:30 - 11am, FIRST CORE (TODAY)
       * 12:30 - 1pm ,  SECOND CORE (TODAY) 

GRANDPARENTS DAY THIS FRIDAY


I.  KNIGHTS preview/introduction
- hand out Knights cards 1-8
- read silently 2-3x (reading preview strategy)
- box key words and underline a few details (notetaking/memorization)
- start to try to memorize words and sentences from your information card (silent)
- read out loud to self, whole class at same time (speech/sentence fluency)
- walk about and share with partners in class; get 15 signatures
   hand over card & they will read as you present information on your card from memory
* use numbers to find new tables
* KNIGHTS QUIZ, based on previous study/reading/memorization activity
* 10 facts on Knights

II.  KNIGHTS - frame
- read two-page article, complete frame
- each top box of frame would be a main idea
  or first sentence of a paragraph in an essay answer on knights
 * will finish in class on Thursday

III.  BOOK FAIR REVIEW
- We'll visit the book fair and if you see something you like
   I can send you back during the week or you can drop by after school!

___  complete VOCAB WEEK 12 in a timely manner
        - DAY 1 complete in class MO
        - DAY 2 complete at home MO night
        - DAY 3 complete at home TU night
        - DAY 4 complete at home WE night
        * begin Outsider SENTENCES once you correct and check answers (each night)
           Try to get a few done early! ! !

___  read ATLAS, page 170, "ISSUES TODAY: POPULATION" (due FRIDAY)
        3 Cornell Notes or Cornell-Style Notes on lined paper
        - break each question into a Cornell Note
        - brief, clipped details (no full sentences)
        - focus on only key words or details
        - don't write words like "the, and, etc."
        * shouldn't take a long time; hardest part is what NOT to write
