> > >  SPELLING BEE TONIGHT @ RWH 6:30-8-ish

I.  CASTLES
- "Early Castles" Search & Fun
- how to take notes/research from sources other than encyclopedias, etc.
- underline key words in text; be selective
- what details can you glean (pick out) about early castles
- write in the next available left-hand side of your spiral
* this would be prep for writing a short-answer essay about early castles
* direct standard-assignment linked to new Common Core Standards coming in 2014

II.  DAVID MACAULEY'S CASTLE (video) - 1st half
- how to take notes from watching a video
- understanding when NOT to take notes
- indicating in notes when a topic or subject has changed
- focus on what castles were and how/when/why they were built
- focus also on what the people in and around castles were like

* both of the above activities are also intended to help students think
about what their castle project must include - parts, etc.

* at this point, students should have a good idea of at least 10-15 design requirements that their castles should include
