I. WITCH RHYME POEM

- QW: explain or analyze your poem
* students are always asking me "if this is okay," without
truly considering themselves what they created. This quick
write requires them to explain why they used the words they used,
what effect they hoped to have on the reader and what they tried to
accomplish by the end of the poem.

II. CHARLEMAGNE "I AM POEM"
- Who was Charlemagne? What did he accomplish?
- What was the extent of his empire? What were his beliefs or philosophies?
- use movie notes and encyclopedia article to come up with strong, descriptive,
specific (rather than vague) lines
* writing an "I Am" Poem for Charlemagne is, essentially a test to
determine how well student grasps the points made in class about him
* This is NOT a two-hour project, although many students
chatted like they had oodles and oodles of time.
Poems are due Friday, to be finished at home if not finished in class.
