I.  poem:  "OCTOBER"
- dissect in groups; analyze; annotate/mark up poem with analysis thoughts
- teacher-guided analysis on back side; same poem
- discuss style, word-choice, metaphor, rhyme, patterns, etc.
* leads us to poem we will reach in Outsiders later in class

language arts/vocab
II.  VOCAB - Scary Words 1
- brainstorm words related to Oct., Halloween, scary words, fall/autumn words
- Word Search #1 (fun, relaxing)
- PREQUIZ - more challenging words
* old english and middle ages-related words (not Latin/Greek-based)
- self-correct
* READ two-sided sheet of explanations. Determine word being described.

III.  OUTSIDERS - chapter 5
- read up to poem "Nothing Gold Stays"
- discuss meaning of poem; read out loud
