I.  FALL OF ROME FLASH CARD READINGS
- four sets of flash card topics: economic, barbarian, military, poor leadership
- Read cards silently 2-3x, then read out loud 2-3x, memorize quickly
- Walk about and share card information
*  Speaking skills, memorizing skills, study skills focused in this activity
* now EVERYONE has at least one thing they know about concerning fall of Roman Empire
***  Walk around and find your "groups" = new seating arrangement for today

II.  DECLINE OF ROME - frame/notes
Q:  How could one of the greatest, far -reaching empires in history
decline and what impact did this decline have on Western Civilization?
 (Also discuss comparisons to "United States Empire")
- Read "Decline of Roman Empire," Ch. 6, World History (pckt)
- Teacher model how to find "key topic," "main idea"
- Teacher model how to determine "main ideas for each column (10)
- Students read pckt first, go back & take bullet-fact notes  (rdng skill builder)
