I. CLOSE READING ACTIVITY
* using the Advisory Reading Article on "Influence"
A. Look at title and design
- box one word in title that is the topic or subject (if there is one)
* there is: "Influence"
- notice there are NO boldface words (you'll have to recognize on your own)
- notice wide margins on each side (we can take notes/write notes)
- NUMBER each paragraph (count them out)
B. read the article silently
you may box key terms or major concepts or ideas as you go
you may underline key details as you go
C. break down each paragraph
* teacher-led walk through at first
- focus on:

__ determining topic/subject, and
__ determining purpose
D. quietly work on breaking down a paragraph or two on your own
- to the best of your ability
II. create COMIC STRIP DIALOGUE inspired by article
- using peanuts comic strip; fill in dialogue
- you can just copy sentences or phrases from the article
- or summarize the article
- or pretend the kids are reading the same article
- or create a conversation that gives examples the article gives
- quick activity, write lightly at first so that you could change if you wished
* may finish at home and turn in with weekly homework on Friday
