I. VOCABULARY WARM UP: Words With Word Parts With Meaning
A. Look at the placards around the room (prefixes, root words, suffixes)
Create a list of any and all words you can come up with that use word parts on any placards
* Part of the Legacy of the Ancient Roman Empire is Latin word parts
B. PREQUIZ for -Ject/-Jet and -Manu words
Hear the word, guess the spelling
Hear the word used in a sentence, guess a workable definition (short)
C. CHECK SPELLING with worksheet packets (due Friday)
* teacher walk through and model the expected steps and process
** this vocabulary packet asks students to slow down and practice all the reading strategies from
hearing words, to guessing meaning based on context clues, to looking at the type of word (noun,
verb, etc.), to recognizing synonyms. Using connotation and allusion, AND visually representing
words also practiced.
II. FAMILY TREE CHAPTER 2 continued
- teacher read aloud, emphasize words or concepts (notes on the fly)
