11/2 [WE], 2016

I.  FAMILY TREE, chapter 22-25
- review previous notes
- are we seeing a shift/change in our main character?  how do we know?  what does she have to do?
* take note of author's use of subtle puns in the book (kicks up dust, clearing, etc.)
- paying close attention to story now to be able to write character development essay
  (will write upon our return with a full week of school/after conferences)


II.  MIDDLE AGES YOUNG ADULT FICTION NOVEL (for home reading)
* FINISH in TEN DAYS, giving you a week to finish up response work
- look through and choose a book from selection of Middle Ages era fiction

- divide total number of pages by ten to determine how much to read over a ten-period schedule

* work to finish book in ten days to be able to review and work on response materials
* VOCABULARY for the next three weeks:
    20 words from each 1/3 of the book
    Include:  (a) word; (b) part of speech; (c) definition; (d) sentence in which word appears &
                    page #   (e) image or icon that depicts/visualizes the meaning; (f) 1-3 sentences that talk
                    about  the story using the word to show what's going on in the story and how the word
                    fits into the story

__ finish CHARLEMAGNE ACROSTIC
     * assigned last week, rough draft finished in class
     * final in color, dark pen, neat, organized due TUESDAY
     * 11x14 size paper

__    continue SCARY WORDS VOCAB #3 (worksheet due THUR)
     * use word search list to fill in blank of clues
     * read clues and determine which words from word list apply
     * word search also due Thursday, but is only worth 1 point; wksht is worth 5


__  consider doing one NEWS ELA online article due by next week
      * go online to Newsela.com
      * choose an article from Gentile's "Binder"
      * read at YOUR level (or you may challenge yourself)
      * answer all quiz questions and two (2) annotated answer questions
      * ten will be required by end of 2nd quarter, including several we do in class
