9/19 [MO], 2016 -- MIB VOC/FT CH6

THIS WEEK:

    --  RUN FOR HEIGHTS PLEDGE SHEETS GO HOME THIS WEEK ! ! !
        
    -- Decide this week on your MIB Format
    __ typed or handwritten in pen
    __ 8.5x11 paper OR 8.5x14 paper
    __ use large colored paper like examples or not

I.  MIB VOCAB #1
* typically there is a pre-quiz on Mondays
* this Monday is MIB Vocab, using last week's word list

-- review word list and keep adding
    60-100 words (w/ page numbers) from the entire book
    may also include words from other sources
    * this word list is a separate assignment worth 10 points

-- read instructions for MIB VOC #1
    show reading by underlining key details to bear in mind
    put a box to the left or right of tasks to make sure to include/remember

II.  GEOGRAPHY CROSSWORD PUZZLE
- review teacher expectations on how to "show reading"
   BOX key words that you might have to define or that have a definition in text
   UNDERLINE key words or phrases that give details/definitions of those words
   Also underline key concepts and ideas (like note-taking or highlighting text)

- BOX category words in each crossword clue
  that indicate the type of word you need for answer
-  UNDERLINE the key words that help you narrow down the clue

** struggling readers do not do this and the practice helps strengthen reading skill
** stronger readers breeze through process without thinking about how they answer Qs

III.  FAMILY TREE CHAPTER 6
- review story so far (chapter 5)
- what happened in the story AND what major ideas did we notice or point out
- read aloud/take notes/discuss certain moments in the story

        * think about sources and paper you will use; think about MIB design for book
___  review MIB Instructions (always be checking and rechecking to see where you are)
___  continue MIB VOCAB (10 words due by FR)
        can be turned in separately, but should be included in a Glossary in your MIB
        must include:
                              __ word
                              __  definition
                              __ extended explanation of how word or concept or thing fits into life of
                                   your historical person
                              __ the original sentence from the text where you found the word
