DUE FRIDAY:

__ 10 detailed sentences about the State of the Union Address


I.  DISNEY-PIXAR'S ANIMATED FEATURE: CARS (continued)
- review notes so far; what did we learn about our main character at the start of this story?
- what is HUBRIS (teacher-led Cornell-style notes)
- what is the HOOK of the story (taking the wrong turn, caused by Lightning's hubris)
- perspective and recognizing value of others
- Radiator Springs (a setting CAN be a character in a story)
- what is RS like when we first see it?  What does Lightning do to the town?
- torn up/destroyed road as metaphor for Lightning's life
- splotch on Lightning = "scarlet letter"/fault/hubris (will not disappear until character changes)
- DOC HUDSON (another character who changes)
- first signs of change; how/why does Lightning soften?
- selFISH or selfLESS? (what are signs we see in the film?)
** we will also be taking note of ALLUSIONS in the film - references to other characters or films or stories (Michael Jordan, Muhammed Ali, Cool Hand Luke)
