9/5/14 - FR [MIB book choice]

reading/social studies
I.  SELECT BOOK FOR MINI ILLUSTRATED BOOKLET
     * read a book on a historical figure and create a book on that person
     * read book first, don't worry about instructions yet...

- at your tables peruse the books in front of you;
- look at title, cover art/images;
- backpage description or inside cover;
- look at several books this way; share at table what historical figures you liked and didn't like
   explain why;
-  select the book (or packet of information)
* we'll pass them around our table and move to other tables
* goal is to select a book subject for the upcoming Mini Illustrated Booklet

II.  BEGIN READING BOOK (SSR)
- now is the time to start reading; you may discover you'd like to change and can do that now

III.  WHY I CHOSE MY BOOK/PERSON QW
- go to fourth page in your SS Spiral; write date in upper right corner
- write dates on all pages you write on;
- middle of page document:
      Title of Book (you chose)
       Author (if given)
      Publisher (on spine or inside cover page)
      Year Published (tiny print publishing information page)
      Number pages

- right hand side begin QW - Explain why you chose the book/person
       start with a strong, clear sentence; set the context
       - first 7th grade reading/writing project
       - be thoughtful, describe your thoughts, reactions, insights, feelings, etc.
        - maybe even mention some books/people you DIDN'T want to read about
* this could be the first paragraph of your MIB introduction

___  read 20-30 minutes, minimum, from your chosen book on a historical figure
___  make sure you show  your parents the REG SHEET
