5/9/13- TH


I.  VOCABULARY WEEK 19
- correct, compare and discuss in groups
-if you finish, create EXTRA CREDIT sentences with vocab about Crusades
* these are extra and beyond sentences you can work on with others

II.  THE CRUSADES - on demand essay
- review notes
- 10 Facts Quiz (limited time) - 10 things you know about the Crusades
- create an outline for a report/essay on the Crusades (web, list, or other)
- begin rough draft of a 1-2-page essay on the Crusades (a formal quick write, basically)

 * two days only (final revision on Friday)
 * say what you can
 * you may ONLY use your outline
 * understand it won't be perfect and you can't say everything
 * 1-page minimum, hand-written
 * 2-3 pages maximum, hand-written
 * at least 5-8 paragraphs
 * clear beginning, clear conclusion; paragraphs with main ideas and focus

III.  OREGON SHAKESPEARE FIELD TRIP
- spend last few minutes reviewing/discussing King Lear (again)
* will try to cover a little bit every other day or every day as able

HOMEWORK -- plan and organize your week; a little each night
* * * *
__  read "Few plan for long-term care, but many people will need it" (Oregonian, 5/13)
      20 facts or details (things you understand from the article) - DUE FR 5/10
      * complete title; neat, detailed facts, organized writing (typed or written)
      * After you have your facts, write a quick summary on top half of backside of article;
         write your opinion on bottom half of backside of article.

___  complete VOCAB WEEK 19 in a timely manner (correct TH, turn in FR)
        - DAY 1 complete in class MO
        - DAY 2 complete at home MO night 
        - DAY 3 complete at home TU night
        - DAY 4 complete at home WE night  (we'll correct in class on TH)
 
___  start/begin VOCAB SENTENCES (due FRI)
        - sentences on The Giver Chapters 2-4/OR on newspaper article

        * begin SENTENCES once you correct and check answers (each night)
           Try to get a few done early! ! !
        * write sentences with detail and context.  Show that you understand the meaning
           of the word.
        * underline or box the vocabulary word; skip lines between sentences
        * title must include which week of vocabulary (which #) and the topic
