II.  VOCABULARY PRE QUIZ #1
- Week 1 PreQuiz (hear words, guess spelling, guess definition)
- become familar with guessing strategies
- correct spelling only
- glance at definitions in matching section to see if you were close

* this will be the vocabulary packet style for rest of year
* it is like a math formula; must follow steps; it is a process
* process works, however!

III.  VOCABULARY DAY 1-2
- walk through VOCAB WEEK 1, DAY 1 (teacher model/talk aloud)
- work in groups or at tables to complete DAY 2 (usually Mon. HW)

(1) Read paragraph 2x to see how words are used;
(2) Box or underline words IN the paragraph
(3) take definitions in the matching and insert them into the sentences
     to begin to guess which definitions fit which words.
(4) work on matching at same time; narrowing down choices
(5) check matching with dictionary AFTER guesses made;
(6) complete fill in the blank section; underline key words that give you answer
(7) box idiom, underline definition (read idiom sentence)
(8) Find synonyms or same meaning words in list at very bottom
      * circle letter and write the word next to new definition
     *underline key word in definition that helped you make the connection
