- adding specific prepostional phrases
- considering mood and tone through choice of images

- read example, listen to instructions, use outline
- write rough draft on scratch paper
- rewrite 2nd draft in Language Arts Spirals
* discuss revision strategies and ways to indicate added material
(how to indicate when and where to insert more text)

literature/language arts/poetry
II.  FAMILY TREE - read CH 12
- discuss/point out elements that could be used in an
"I AM" poem for a character in Family Tree
- write "I AM" poem (rough draft only) for one of the characters
= papa, Tyler, Ms. Custer, Sissy Norman, or Casey
* this time, must use an appositive for a title, NOT character's name

examples:
I AM A WORLD WEARY TRAVELER (Marco Polo)
I AM A WALL-CRAWLING ARRACHNID (Spider Man)
I AM THE CHOSEN ONE?  (Harry Potter)

 * this becomes a review of and test of how well students understand
a character in the novel

III.  VOCAB WEEK 4 - END OF WEEK TEST
- speed test today
- getting students used to speed and pressure
* must finish fast BUT I'm not counting all missed words
* must be able to score at least 50% correct (criteria today)

* explanation:  there are too many assignments where students take forever to finish an assignment.  They will not always have this opportunity for unlimited time and must begin to get used to sometimes working fast and using limited time wisely.
