11/23 - MO

* * *  PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES BEGIN TONIGHT, 4:30-8:00 PM.
* * *  CONFERENCES CONTINUE TUESDAY, 8am-8pm.
* * *  NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY

reading
I.  IN CLASS HISTORICAL NOVEL
- complete "Previously" paragraph in spiral journals
- complete "Prediction" paragraph in spiral journals
- create word list (vocabulary, strong words, powerful, etc)
* this is a review and vocabulary activity B4 reading
- SSR (20-25 minutes)


language arts
II.  GRATEFUL GOURDS

- create list of things, objects, experiences, memories, etc.
   that student is thankful for or appreciative of
- read examples of detailed "Grateful" statements
- write several personal examples, striving for strong, specific imagery
- complete/design/color Grateful Gourds with final copy
* a Thanksgiving-related activity that also works to compell students to focus on
   stronger, more interesting and detailed writing.  Or at least that's the idea!



reading/fluency/speech
III. "BLACK NOVEMBER" poem

- from popular children's book by Davild Pilkey
- read out loud as a class, practice inflection and delivery
*  Task is to read to someone/anyone over break, working on delivery
    Can read to a dog/pet/baby/little sibling or to family at Thanksgiving.

___  practice READing David Pilkey poem, "Black November"
        * more credit for reading out loud, with drama to family members or others over break
         ! ! HAVE FUN with this one! ! 
___  continue to read and highlight Middle Ages Information Packet (due by Monday)
___  continue/finish 26-52 NOTECARDS on life in the Middle Ages (due by Monday)

* both of the above assignments should be 1/3 or more completed already, but students may have waited until the last minute, giving themselves homework over the break that would not be required if the work had been started several days ago and time better used in class.  (just sayin')
