9/23 - WE

I. WORD PARTS/GRAMMAR
- Adjectives worksheet
- READ instructions.  Write notes to ensure comprehension. 
- When reading instructions, BOX verbs (telling you what to do), UNDERLINE the "what"
  *  this helps ensure you understand what you are supposed to do

- When answering questions and finding adjectives, BOX nouns and UNDERLINE describing words
  * again, what we are focusing on is how you successfully complete these exercises

- Jot notes on possible answers; rule out two choices to leave one choice;
  *   consider choice and write "opposite" or "not fit" to rule out two choices


current events/reading
II.  CURRENT EVENTS: Scan 4 news articles
- Scanning and confidence reading activity; scan articles only;
- Write a list of words that are challenging, unfamiliar, unknown or striking
* What winds up happening is that students DO wind up reading and comprehending
   some of the article;  this is a scanning and rapid reading activity, however;
- WORD LISTS DUE FRIDAY.  Neat.  Legible.  Organized.  Proper format.

reading
III.  OUTSIDERS, pg. 3-12
- Review story "opening," discuss type of narrator (first person)
- Note narrator's use of description to define personality; THEME: perceptions/appearances
- Note ways to discover "setting" even though the author doesn't give a year or place;
